LEGO is the best-known name in building sets, but it's far from the only one. Brands like CaDA, Mould King, Lumibricks, NifeliZ, Pantasy and Reobrix design their own sets, and each has its own specialty, from motorized supercars and remote-control cranes to lit-up city streets, botanicals and world landmarks. Here's a guide to the brands worth knowing and how to find the right one for you.
Who makes building sets besides LEGO?
In recent years, a growing number of brands have started designing and producing their own building sets. Many focus on subjects adult builders love, such as supercars, trains, architecture and display pieces. Some make officially licensed sets of real cars and well-known characters. Others create entirely original designs.
At BRIXARC, we stock sets from more than a dozen of these brands, all sourced directly from the brand or its authorized distributor. You can browse the full list on our building brands page. If you're new to the hobby, our beginner's guide to building block sets covers the basics first.
What is LEGO known for?
LEGO is a Danish company, and its interlocking brick system is what most people picture when they think of building sets. It's known for a very large range of themes, long-running licensed lines, consistent part quality and a huge global community of builders. For many people, it's where the hobby started.
Because the LEGO brick system is so widely recognized, many other brands use a similar stud-and-tube design. That's why bricks from different brands can often connect, though not always perfectly. Our guide to brick compatibility across brands explains where mixing works and where it doesn't.
What makes other building brands different?
Most brands have a clear focus. Instead of covering every theme, they specialize in a few areas and go deep. Common specialties include:
- Motorized and remote-control builds: working motors, remote or app control, and technical functions like steering, lifting and gear shifting
- Built-in lighting: sets designed with LED lighting as part of the build
- Display models: supercars, landmarks, ships and aircraft built for the shelf
- Botanicals: flowers, bonsai and plants that work as long-lasting home decor
- Licensed collaborations: officially licensed cars, characters and pop culture sets

Are these brands original, or are they copies?
The brands above design and sell sets under their own names, and several also hold official licenses for the real cars and characters they feature. That's different from copycat sets, which copy another brand's designs and are often sold without clear branding.
Telling the two apart isn't always easy when you're shopping online. Our guide to spotting original brands versus copycat sets walks you through what to check. At BRIXARC, we only sell branded sets sourced directly from brands or their authorized distributors, and we're an authorized seller of NifeliZ building sets in India. FAQs
What are the best building brands besides LEGO?
It depends on what you like to build. Mould King and CaDA are popular for motorized and remote-control models, Lumibricks for buildings with built-in lighting, NifeliZ for botanicals and display vehicles, and Reobrix for aircraft and landmarks.
Are other building brands compatible with LEGO?
Standard bricks and plates from most major brands usually connect with LEGO bricks because they use a similar stud-and-tube system. Grip, color and electronics can differ between brands. See our brick compatibility guide for details.
Is the quality of other building brands good?
Quality varies by brand and even by set. Established brands develop their own designs, and many are well regarded by adult builders. Buying genuine sets from the brand or an authorized seller is the best way to get the quality the brand intended.
Do other building brands make licensed sets?
Yes. Several brands make officially licensed sets, such as real cars from PowerBuild and CaDA, Hot Wheels cars from Mattel Brick Shop, and character sets from Pantasy's collaborations.
Can I buy NifeliZ sets officially in India?
Yes. BRIXARC is an authorized NifeliZ seller in India, so you can buy genuine NifeliZ building sets directly from us.
Which brand is best for a first set?
Any brand can work for a first build. Choose a subject you love and start with a static set of a manageable size. Motorized sets are great once you're comfortable with longer, more technical builds.
